Unprecedented Alliance

This was an unprecedented year for Turtle Island Recycling's partner, Northam Realty Advisors, at the 2011 Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of the Greater Toronto Area awards.

Northam's buildings - 2 Carlton, 2180 Yonge Street, and 483 Bay Street - didn't just win BOMA Awards this year - they literally swept the awards, once again raising raise the bar on environmental excellence in the commercial real estate industry.

BOMA celebrated building and management excellence at its 13th annual Celebration of Excellence dinner April 27, 2011, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

About 500 real estate professionals showed up to recognize their peers at what is considered the commercial real estate event of the year. The awards program consists of the following categories:

  • Certificate of Building & Management Excellence (recognizes quality in buildings and their management teams)
  • Buildings of the Year Award
  • Earth Award (recognizes the ultimate in environmental management)
  • Pinnacle Award (recognizes excellence in two categories this year: Above & Beyond and Innovation
Northam and Turtle Island Sweep Awards

Northam Realty virtually swept the awards, winning a total of 10 prizes among the three GTA buildings entered: 2 Carlton, 2180 Yonge and 483 Bay Street.

All Northams's buildings received Building and Management Excellence Awards in their respective categories.

Four buildings received BOMA BESt (formally Go Green) Awards. One building received the top environmental award in Ontario - the Earth Award. Two buildings received the Building of the Year Award.

Here is a breakdown on each award as presented to each winning Northam Realty building:

History Repeating itself: 2009 LEED Gold Victory

In 2009, Bell Trinity Square - as a partner with Turtle Island Recycling - was also awarded LEED EB Gold Certification, making it the first office building in Toronto with this qualification. LEED is a third-party certification program which outlines unusually high standards for management systems and procedures. It is an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings and homes and recognizes environmental responsibility in such areas as energy use, recycling, water and air quality.

As a long-time environmental partner with Northam Realty, Turtle Island Recycling looks forward to many more years as its premier waste management and recycling services provider.
