Toronto, ON - Did you know that 9,000 children die each day from preventable diseases that are completely avoidable, simply by washing regularly with a bar of soap?
As it turns out, recycling is the solution.
Recently, Toronto's leading recycler - Turtle Island Recycling - partnered with Clean the World to help operate their Soap Recycling Program.

"This partnership is a perfect match for both our organizations and it gives Turtle Island a chance to help directly toward saving lives," says Turtle Island Environmental Specialist and company program coordinator, Amina Lang-Bismillah.
Clean the World - a US-based charity founded in 2009 - recycles hotel soaps and bottled amenities, such as shampoos, conditioners, and lotions and distributes them to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished people worldwide. Their mission is to help prevent deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses.
The new partners are already planning to double the collection numbers in coming months to distribute the soaps around Ontario and worldwide.

Turtle Island will help collect, recycle, and distribute high volumes of soaps and shampoos from hotel partners throughout Canada. They also plan to open a recycling centre in downtown Toronto to serve a growing number of participating hotels, resorts, and bed-and-breakfasts.
"Recycling is what we do best and this is a great opportunity to use our unique expertise to help others," says Louis Anagnostakos, Turtle Island Recycling CEO.
"We are so proud and extremely grateful to be a part of this program. Not only will this reduce landfill waste, we'll also be helping save lives by sending hygiene products to those who need it most," says Amina Lang-Bismillah.

Each day in Canada more than 50,000 pounds of hotel soaps are discarded after guest use, and that means 18 million pounds of annual waste can now be diverted from landfill with the new recycling program.
Clean the World currently partners with more than 550 hotel properties in 47 states and eight provinces in Canada to collect, sanitize, recycle and distribute 390 tonnes of soap. Some of their hotel partners include such notables as The Walt Disney World Resorts, Harrah's Resorts, Mandarin Oriental, Westgate Resorts and Four Seasons.
Clean the World is a not-for-profit charity operating under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and headquartered in Orlando, Florida.
Turtle Island Recycling is one of Canada's leading recycling companies serving businesses, organizations, private homeowners, and municipalities.
