Turtle Island Recycling To The Rescue

TOWNSHIP OF KING, May 24th, 2007

On May 17th a collection crew located at 57 Patton Street in the community of King City, Township of King, discovered live kittens in garbage bags intended for collection.

After compacting the waste in the back of the truck, the crew made its stop and one TIR crew member collected three plus bags of garbage, tossing them into the back of the truck. As they were about to pull away the crew member thought he heard sounds coming from the bags he had just picked up. Upon investigation he found the cries coming from two live kittens. Another kitten was, unfortunately, found dead alongside.

Field supervisor Shawn Reddy reported the message to Official Larry Hollett who arrived at the scene with By-Law Officials Nancy Cronsberry and Chris Somerville. The kittens were transported to the municipal office en route to the Kingsdale Animal Hospital. Additional bags of garbage from the same stop were collected for full-scale investigation by Township staff and SPCA was notified.
